Campaign Chair Emeritus Gail Ferrell’s first Presidential election she remembers was in 1952 when she was 10 years old. She watched the Democratic National Convention and was hooked from that day forward. It wasn’t an easy journey in Lincoln, Nebraska, – her hometown – because Democrats, then as now, were an unpopular minority. But it was certainly her journey being married – for fifty-one years – to an agent of the NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) has provided her family with the blessings of living in many exciting places throughout the US, Japan and Europe. Gail’s family has moved every few years, giving her a priceless array of opportunities and experiences, every one more enriching than the last. She has been a dental chair-side assistant at the Naval Centers in Iceland and Japan; an office manager working with former Democratic Vice President candidate Sargent Shriver for the Special Olympics International Committee in Washington DC; and a paralegal while her family was stationed in Southern California.
When Gail finally retired there was no doubt about what she wanted to do – she immersed herself in Democratic politics, following the dream she’d had since she was ten years old. Her first venture was during then-Senator Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in 2008 when she was introduced to the Democratic Club of Southwest Riverside County and got involved in Riverside County politics. In the past five years she has served as the Club’s President, Treasurer and Recording Secretary.
Her devotion to the Club and her dependability soon led to an appointment to the Riverside County Democratic Central Committee, representing the 67th Assembly District. During her first term on the Central Committee, she was appointed Chair of the Credentials Committee, a position she still holds to this day.
In 2012, Gail was elected again to the Committee and then was further elected to be the Committee’s Assembly District 67’s Vice Chair. She is also an active member of the Candidate Development and Training Committee – which provides guidance and workshops for prospective candidates – and serves on the Budget Development Committee.
Gail was also recently elected to be a member of the California Democratic Party Executive Board, traveling statewide to help influence its activities, policies, and endorsements. She is also a member of the Democrats of Greater Riverside, Democrats of Corona-Norco and First Vice President of the Menifee/Perris Valley Democratic Club.
Gail and her husband Larry are the parents of two children, and two grandchildren, ages three and seventeen – of whom she is very proud.
