Sheridan Vows To Refuse Money from Organizations that Advocate Against Gun Safety Legislation While His Opponent Is A Top Recipient of NRA Money – June 16, 2016

In the wake of the country’s deadliest mass shooting, Americans are calling for gun safety measures, and are discussing ways to prevent similar attacks from happening in the future. Tim Sheridan, the Democrat running for Congress in California’s 42nd District, supports taking action, and is calling for leaders in Congress to enact new legislation that will help decrease the number of mass shootings in the future.

“While we cannot completely protect ourselves from gun violence,” Sheridan said, “we must take reasonable steps to do so – even if a powerful lobbying group like the NRA thinks otherwise.”

Sheridan’s opponent, 23-year incumbent Congressman Ken Calvert, has not only consistently voted against gun safety measures, he is a top recipient of donations from the NRA, having received $40,550 from the powerful lobbyist organization.

“The residents of California’s 42nd Congressional District deserve a representative that cares about what’s best for them, not what’s best for the special interests and lobbyists,” Sheridan said. “Mr. Calvert’s long history of accepting of these donations from the NRA and his stance against gun safety measures proves he can be bought and paid for, something I am completely unwilling to do.”

Sheridan added that the tragic loss of human life on American soil is a grave reminder for us to remain vigilant, and to do everything in our power to prevent similar tragedies from happening in the future.

“When I’m in Congress,” Sheridan said, “I will reject special interest money that advocates against common sense gun safety measures. It is more important that we keep ourselves and our children safe than giving in to organizations like the NRA that care more about guns than people,” Sheridan concluded.

California’s 42nd Congressional District, a geographical area shaped like the letter “X.” runs along the I-15 corridor from Eastvale, southeast to Temecula, and northeast along the I-215 and CA-79 corridors to Beaumont. It also includes the communities of Corona, Norco, Lake Elsinore, Wildomar, Murrieta, Menifee, Sun City, Winchester, Homeland and Nuevo. Mr. Sheridan lives in Lake Elsinore.
