Senior Campaign Advisor Thor Causing, a native of the Philippines, first migrated to California in October 1987, but continued to travel back and forth to the Philippines to finish his education. In 1991, he earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Social Work, cum laude, at the University of the Philippines and, in 1996, earned his law degree – again from the University of the Philippines. In February 1997, he was admitted to the Bar in the Philippines.
In 2012, Thor was recognized as one of the 100 Outstanding Filipino-Americans in the USA.
Thor has also always been very active in his community, both here in the United States where he is a member of the Corona Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 2045, and in the Philippines.
For example, in 2013, as the Lord Chancellor (Head) of the Alpha Phi Beta (Association of Philippine Barristers) Fraternity-North America West Coast Chapter (APB-NAWCC), Thor led the brotherhood in conducting its Transformational Outreach Project-Free Legal Immigration Clinic & Knowledge (TOP-FLICK) in Southern California, where fellow lawyers & paralegals provided free legal services for the underserved members of the community.
Additionally, Thor currently serves as the International Liaisons Officer of Imus City, Cavite, Philippines as well as an election lawyer for the May 2016 Philippines Local (for incumbent Imus City Mayor Emmanuel “Manny” L. Maliksi) and National Elections (for incumbent Senator Francis “Chiz” G. Escudero for Vice President).
Borne out of his Social Work background, Thor began his career as a labor union organizer in 1999, where he has helped organize, educate, mobilize and empower registered nurses and other health care workers about their labor rights, duties and benefits. He was instrumental in organizing thousands of nurses and health care workers, not only in California, but across the USA, in fighting for dignity, respect, and a voice at work, as well as better wages, benefits, and working conditions.
Thor has always been committed to his alma mater’s mantra: “Serve the People!”
